Our Story

How it all started...

The vision for Milam County Cowboy Church was originally cast in 2006 by Jack Chelf, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Rockdale.  Jack encouraged Greg Spears to attend a “church planting school” sponsored by the Texas Fellowship of Cowboy Churches and indeed, the seed was planted.  After serval weeks of “struggling with God”, Greg said God called him “out of the pasture” to become the first pastor of Milam County Cowboy Church.

Our first service was held on March 4th, 2007, in the Rockdale Fair Park, with over 250 folks joining in our worship.  In 2009 the decision was made to purchase 30 acres at our current location and we begin saving the money to build our facility.  In 2010, with the help of many in the congregation and the incredible assistance from the “Volunteer Christian Builders” mission team, construction began.  In a very short 8-months, construction was complete, and our first service was held on September 19th, 2010, with over 400 in attendance.

On July 1st 2023, the Milam County Cowboy Church welcomed a new Pastor, Tim Stephens.  Tim and his wife Susan come to us with a long background in Texas Cowboy Church, a lifelong passion for cowboy culture and serving our lord Jesus Christ. Tim will tell you, “I’ve been part of cowboy culture for most of my life and I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to follow the call of God on my life to be a minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to shepherd His flock”

God has blessed the Milam County Cowboy Church in so many ways and used us to become a major impact in our local communities.  Being the best stewards of God’s blessings we can be, today we are totally debt free church and exist with the unswerving commitment of many, many volunteers to be the salt and light in our community.  We like to say we’ve done church a little differently and that has made a difference in our community.  Not changing the message, just the method.

We offer our worship service and message starting at 10AM each Sunday, with a nursery, classes for toddlers to high school, Wednesday night bibles study of all ages. Our Celebrate Recovery Group meets every Thursday @ 7PM along with numerous other ministries throughout the week.
